Bending process for aluminum plates in various thicknesses

Recently, customers often ask questions about aluminum bending when they buy aluminum plates , such as what is the coefficient when bending a 3mm aluminum plate?

Which knife should be used?

What is the bending coefficient of a 5mm thick aluminum plate?

Why does the aluminum plate crack when bending?

In fact, the bending coefficient of aluminum plate is regular, which is generally 80% of  the plate thickness, such as 3mm, 2.4, and 4. When using a knife, it is generally better to use a sharp knife. When using a straight sword knife, the pressure is too large, and the aluminum plate is prone to crack.

[The reason of cracking when aluminum plate is bent 180 degrees]

1. The bending edge is parallel to the rolling direction of the aluminum plate, so it is easy to crack .  And you can turn the bending direction 90 degrees to avoid this problem

2.   180 degree bending degree is too much compared to the thickness and it should be greater than the minimum bending radius. Generally, the bending radius is 150% of  plate thickness

3.  The toughness of alloy like 3xxx 5xxx series is not as good as pure aluminum plates like 1100 , 1060.  So the aluminum alloy sheet is easy to crack

4. The thickness of the plate is too thick, and the bending 180 degrees has exceeded the bending limit of the material.
